Eric Clapton在西洋乐坛素有"吉他之神"的美誉，其漫长的音乐历程与居高不下的名气主要归功于精湛的现场吉他表演。Eric Clapton年近五十方育得一子，然造化弄人，稚龄爱子竟从纽约数十层高的公寓阳台意外摔下身亡，这个打击几乎让他一蹶不振。悲痛之余的Eric Clapton将他的思子之苦寄情于歌中，于是产生了"Tears In eaven"这首歌曲。它首先被收录于电影《迷途枷锁》(Rush)的原声带中，这也是Eric Clapton全程参与的配乐作品。1992年发行单曲后很快得到白金唱片并蝉联亚军，同年3月份他在录制MTV音乐台相当受欢迎的小型不插电演唱会（Unplugged）时再度表演此曲。
